Rocking your way out

A bit of an older story from the Telegraph: Highway to Hell among most requested funeral songs.

The Led Zeppelin and AC/DC anthems rank outside the top 10, but have gained ground in recent years as more Australians give up traditional Christian hymns…

As Christians we could do some headbanging over this trend, but only if we have done enough to reach the unchurched. Otherwise stay tuned because you may be hearing this at your local funeral home:

On Regeneration

In many ways in keeping with what Bishop Hodur wrote on regeneration in Our Way of Life:

Rebirth comes from a spiritual transformation which changes man into a new being. It begins with an understanding of our true relationship with God and moving into closer union with Him. This understanding and this union become sources of the great power which is needed to complete the transformation…

But how does one attain this situation? How can we bring about this miraculous transformation of the human soul, which changes the wretched and sinful human into the fortunate one who finds satisfaction even among life’s greatest adversities?

There are two incentives for this change: one flows directly from God; the second is inherent in human consciousness…

They found themselves, figuratively, on the brink of an abyss of torment and despair. A sense of hopelessness and a feeling of the insignificance of human life emanated from it.

At such a moment in their lives, they met the Divine Teacher from Nazareth. This meeting determined their subsequent way of life and their entire futures. It became their rescue, deliverance, and rebirth.

Through this contact with Christ, their uncertainty vanished, their doubts disappeared, and they no longer heard the voices of despair. An energizing force flowed into their souls, and along with it came great perception, holy fervor, unbounded love of God, and the desire to dedicate their lives to the service of mankind. — Excerpts from Chapter IV, Spiritual Rebirth.

A Jazz Prayer

The latest, named “Prayer” from an up-and-coming Polish Jazz artist Karolina Glazer. The song “Prayer” is a solo vocal only. There is no accompaniment. I think she’s remarkable.

Teledysk do utworu “Prayer” Karoliny Glazer from Krzysztof Szopa on Vimeo.

I also like her motto: “If you can’t sing it, improvise it.”

From her MySpace Music profile:

Karlona Glazer was born on June 10, 1982 in Gliwice, Poland. Karolina was brought up within an environment of people involved in art. Her house has always been full of music, dance and plastic arts. She began her adventure with jazz when she was only a teenager, spending time at jam sessions in the Silesian Jazz Club in Gliwice. She was a student of Krystyna Pronko and Anna Serafinska. She also developed her voice during International Workshops in SLS Vocal Technique conducted by American lecturers.

In 2003 she was won a prestigious XXX International Festival Of Jazz Vocalists in Zamość, Poland. It enabled her to continue her musical development and resulted in performances at various concerts in Poland (Smart Jazzpol Festival 2003, Bluse over Bóbr 2004, Gogowskie Spotkania Jazzowe, Pilsner Urquel Jazz 2005, Colours of sound 2006). She has been well received by the critics and journalists (Jazz Forum, Jazzi Magazine). In 2004, according to fusion.pl survey, she classified fourth in popularity ranking (vocalist / vocal group) in Poland. As professionals say: the jazz environment recognizes her as a rising star of Polish jazz vocalism.

Karolina specializes in an instrumental approach to human voice and pays attention to scat improvisation technique. She experiments with her vocals by using her great imagination and a 4-octave scale. Her music is characterized by an improvisational and colourful approach to jazz.

Campaign for Liberty

I encourage you to check out Ron Paul’s Campaign for Liberty, and if you are so inclined, to join. I have joined, and support the cause, because its aims go beyond party politics to core issues that of concern to all Americans.

In his organizational statement , Ron Paul explains:

The work of the Campaign for Liberty will take many forms. We will educate our fellow Americans in freedom, sound money, non-interventionism, and free markets. We’ll have our own commentaries and videos on the news of the day. I’ll work with friends I respect to design materials for homeschoolers.

We’ll keep an eye on Congress and lobby against legislation that threatens us. We’ll identify and support political candidates who champion our great ideas against the empty suits the party establishments offer the public.

We will be a permanent presence on the American political landscape…

People frustrated with our political system often wonder what they can do. I have founded this organization to answer that question, to give people the opportunity to do something that really makes a difference in the fight for freedom. Please join me by becoming a member of the Campaign for Liberty. Our goal is 100,000 members by September…

—In the final analysis,— I wrote in my new book The Revolution: A Manifesto, —the last line of defense in support of freedom and the Constitution consists of the people themselves. If the people want to be free, if they want to lift themselves out from underneath a state apparatus that threatens their liberties, squanders their resources on needless wars, destroys the value of their dollar, and spews forth endless propaganda about how indispensable it is and how lost we would all be without it, there is no force that can stop them.—

What we love about America

Freedom of speech and our ability to imagine a better tomorrow. Note: video contains an off-color phrase…

If you get a chance check out his other videos here. I liked the one about Mitt Romney and “Secret secrets of scientologist …” He also does a good parody of George Bush as Harry Potter. The language in most is rough so use caution.
