I see you like Tissot; so do I, especially his “Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem” and “What Our Lord Saw from the Cross”. One of my other favorite, non-Polish painters from that period is the Russian artist Vasily Surikov and his painting of the Old Believer “Boyarina Morozova”. I love to examine the styles, colors, lines, shapes, and textures in these art works and to study the individual characters and connect them to the scene and the story.
It amuses me to see this work because my professor berated me once for using too much black, brown and white in my charcoal drawing; he said they were not “colors”. I guess Tissot did not ‘get the memo’.Love this work.
