Christian Witness, ,

Your prayers please

For our Christian brother and fellow blogger Chanuka Erdita on the passing of his wife. Please hold Chanuka, their son Cyan, and their entire family in your prayers.

From Beacons of Light – a testament of faith.

Eternal rest grant unto her O Lord and may the perpetual light shine upon her.
May her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed rest in peace. Amen.

Salam Maria, penuh rahmat, Tuhan sertamu,
Terpujilah engkau di antara wanita,
Dan terpujilah buah tubuhmu, Yesus
Santa Maria, bunda Allah,
Doakanlah kami yang berdosa ini
Sekarang dan waktu kami mati. Amin.

February 11 – Recollecting a cold February day by Wanda Grodzieńska

To the cavern of the winter queen
go small creatures and birds.
— Save us, madam, please.

It’s February give us a sign.
The whole world is like stone, in hardest ice.
A hard freeze and hunger.
Lady of winter, grant a good winter:
Protect us from the February blast!

Winter’s threat is in your hands.
— Return, February, your governess’ end!

It’s hard to plan for a bad February.
— Just a few short days left in our stores.
Winter’s mother, do not be hindered
and do not abrogate your governance.

Winter is here: — Don’t be punishing!
Your fun will soon be over.
We will sit in your cave all year,
As the earth goes on to March!

squirrel-under-snow

Do pieczary królowej Zimy
Idą tłumnie zwierzęta i ptaki.
-Ratuj, pani, bardzo prosimy.

Już nam فuty dał we znaki.
Całą ziemię skuł twardym lodem.
Wichrem mrozi i morzy głodem.
Pani Zimo, bądź zimą dobrą:
Przed złym Lutym zwierzęta obroń!

Zima groźnie klasnęła w dłonie.
– Wracaj, Luty, twym rządom koniec!

A zły Luty za głowę się złapał.
– Przecież jeszcze mam dzionek na zapas.
Matko Zimo, proszę nie wzbraniaj
I nie skracaj mi panowania.

Zima na to: – Nie dam za karę!
Nabroiłeś już ponad miarę.
Przez rok cały posiedzisz w pieczarze,
A na ziemię odleci Marzec!

February 10 – Within Their Silent, Perfect Glass. . . by Adam Mickiewicz

Within their silent perfect glass
The mirror waters, vast and clear,
Reflect the silhouette of rocks,
Dark faces brooding on the shore.

Within their silent, perfect glass
The mirror waters show the sky;
Clouds skim across the mirror’s face,
And dim its surface as they die.

Within their silent, perfect glass
The mirror waters image storm;
They glow with lightning, but the blast
Of thunder do not mar their calm.

Those mirror waters, as before,
Still lie in silence, vast and clear.

The mirror me, I mirror them,
As true a glass as they I am:
And as I turn away I leave
The images that gave them form.

Dark rocks must menace from the shore,
And thunderheads grow large with rain;
Lightning must flash above the lake,
And I must mirror and pass on,
Onward and onward without end.

Translated by Cecil Hemley.

The mountains of Three Saints Bay from the NOAA ship Miller Freeman

Nad wodą wielką i czystą
Stały rzędami opoki,
I woda tonią przejrzystą
Odbiła twarze ich czarne;

Nad wodą wielką i czystą
Przebiegły czarne obłoki,
I woda tonią przejrzystą
Odbiła kształty ich marne;

Nad wodą wielką i czystą
Błysnęło wzdłuż i grom ryknął,
I woda tonią przejrzystą
Odbiła światło, głos zniknął.

A woda, jak dawniej czysta,
Stoi wielka i przejrzysta.

Tę wodę widzę dokoła
I wszystko wiernie odbijam,
I dumne opoki czoła,
I błyskawice – pomijam.

Skałom trzeba stać i grozić,
Obłokom deszcze przewozić,
Błyskawicom grzmieć i ginąć,
Mnie płynąć, płynąć i płynąć –

February 9 – A bridge between two hearts by Piotr Rubik

I know that you are more.
I know longing kills you.
I know but I do not understand.
I want to burn like fire.
I want to be one with you.
I want, but do not know how.

ref.
I build a bridge.
Over raging and swift rivers.
Before you can proceed
To my side.
I build a bridge.
With sun dappled clouds;
Connecting the stormy sea
To the silence of the mountains.

I know you do not want to stand alone.
I know your plaintive cry.
I know, still I slipped away.
You want to conquer your unease.
You want to know the truth.
You want however long the wait.

ref.
I build a bridge.
Over raging and swift rivers,
Before you can proceed
To my side.
I build a bridge
With sun dappled clouds;
Connecting the stormy sea
To the silence of the mountains.

We build a bridge —
No longer to be divided.
Together for a new day,
Time has passed.
We build a bridge
Connecting two worlds.
One is you,
The other me.
We build a bridge
Represented in a rainbow!
We build a bridge
of two hearts.
We build a bridge
Joining night to day,
Fire to ice,
Light to shadow.

I build a bridge because I love you!

Translation by Dcn. Jim

Wiem nie umiesz być niczyja
Wiem tęsknota cię zabija
Wiem a jednak nie rozumiem
Chcę rozpalić tu ognisko
Chcę być z tobą bardzo blisko
Chcę a jednak wciąż nie umiem

ref.
Wybuduję most
Nad najszerszą z rwących rzek
Abyś mogła przejść
Na mój brzeg
Wybuduję most
Z rozświetlonych słońcem chmur
Złączę morza szum
Z ciszą gór

Ja wiem pozostać nie chcesz niczyj
Wiem tęsknota twoja krzyczy
Wiem a jednak mi uciekasz
Ty chcesz niepokój swój pokonać
Chcesz naprawdę się przekonać
Chcesz za długo jednak czekasz

ref.
Wybuduję most
Nad najszerszą z rwących rzek
Abym mogła przejść
Na twój brzeg
Wybuduję most
Z rozświetlonych słońcem chmur
Złączę morza szum
Z ciszą gór

Wybudujmy most
Niech już nic dzieli nas
Złączmy z nowym dniem
Przeszły czas
Wybudujmy most
Co połączy światy dwa
Jednym jesteś ty
a drugim ja
Wybudujmy most
Zapatrzeni w tęczę tęcz
Wybudujmy most
Dwojga Serc
Wybudujmy most
Co połączy z nocą dzień
Z lodem ognia żar
Z blaskiem cień

Wybuduję most bo kocham cię

Perspective, PNCC,

R.C. Diocese of Scranton announces church closings

The full announcement was recently posted. From a quick perusal of the listings it would appear that a large number of parishes, founded by Poles and Slovaks, are to be closed. One of the few to be saved is Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, which stands near the PNC Church’s cathedral. From the Times Leader: At least 19 Lackawanna churches will be closing

Cluster 3 – St. Francis of Assisi, St. John the Evangelist, and Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, Scranton will consolidate at Sacred Hearts…

It would be simple to say that Bishop Hodur foresaw all this, that people would have the parishes they worked to build closed out from under them, but the faith and work of the PNCC is something far greater than that.

The Polish National Catholic Church, through the grace of God, is built by its faithful. The community’s ownership of its property, its control over parish assets, is greater than mere title, it is greater than the democracy we espouse. We believe in our role as the people of the Church. We know that our work, our struggle, our cooperation, and our ownership show forth our active participation in the building of God’s kingdom. You can speak to parish committee members from across the country. It is not an easy task. You can speak to any of us, the PNCC faithful, who take responsibility for God’s Church to heart. Our participation, our voice and vote, gives recognition to our partnership in making Christ known to the world.

It is our people, working with our priests, cooperating with our bishops. Our polity is one in which we recognize a common destiny. We are God’s people, focused on the kingdom. We are God’s people, a unified community, cooperating with each other, taught by the Holy Church, and led by Christ. We share one labor and look forward to our common destiny.

The R.C. Diocese of Albany called their consolidation and closing process “Called to Be Church.” As PNCC members we do not need such a call. We know that we are the Church.

February 8 – Open the Eye by Tomasz Gil

We close the eyes of the dead
Because that’s a gate and road
Where we do not wish to walk

And cover the trauma and wound
Because such body, live and open,
Points to the circuits of soul

Us, living and well, we hide our sex
Since it’s a wound – never healing
And the spirit’s eye – ever open

But it is a live wire
Connecting you and me and the other world
A way of going to sleep

While the dream moves us to wake
Not in the bedroom or dark alley of shame
Not in the grip of regret and scorn

But crowned by moon, sun and stars
And blessed by flutterings of grace
Where Time like a dove lands in St Francis’ hands.
