From the Polish Catholic Church
Mr. Robert Strybel’s syndicated column, which appears in Polish American World, notes the following regarding the Polish Catholic Church (a daughter of the PNCC):
Poland’s first Roman-Polish Catholic nuptial in a Polish-Catholic parish has occurred in the southeastern town of Łęki Dukielskie, the PC fraternal organ “Rodzina” reported recently. Elżbieta Nycz was able to marry Polish-Catholic Norbert Gruszczyński after receiving dispensation from her bishop – something the RC Church had earlier been reluctant to grant…
The local Polish Catholic parish is the Church of the Good Shepherd.
Interesting! I was unaware that this had not occurred in the PNKK.
I imagine this has occurred, it’s just that one member of the couple would be forced to choose. A lot in Poland, especially in smaller villages, rests on reputation and inter-personal relationships.
I have been told that people go to church, not as much for church, but because their absence would cause people to talk, give scandal to their family, etc.
This is a much better situation in that people will not be forced to start their relationship by compromising their faith or their family and community relationships.
The R.C. position in Poland is extremely strong and it exerts great influence spiritually, economically, and communally. That power isn’t always used for good, in this case it was.
