PNCC Holy Days and Feasts Script

I developed a php script based on the work of Dan Kaplan and the DateCalculator Script from Bob’s Scripts.

The script provides the dates of Easter and the days related to Easter. It also provides the dates of other Western Christian Feasts and Solemnities as well as those particular to the PNCC.

The script provides dates between 1902 and 2037. Just enter the year you would like to know about. To have a look click here…

If anyone would like the script just let me know. I’d be happy to share. Please E-mail me here

NBC Cancels Anti-Christian Show

(CNSNews.com) – The NBC “Will and Grace” episode featuring Britney Spears hosting a cooking show called “Cruci-fixins” has been cancelled in the wake of Christian protests, but the term was actually recycled from a Fox network show.

Hmmm, the term was recycled from shows on a second rate network. And this is supposed to make a difference? Besides reruns and adolescent programming Fox has…

Maybe they were afraid they’d have to do a show about Mo-hama-dama-ding-dongs, the snack with no substance?

Blessed Are the Meek: The Life and Martyrdom of a Priest on Mission in Turkey

Fr. Andrea wanted to live in the Middle East —as Jesus lived there, with the humble gift of his life.— They killed him, crying out —Allah is great,— while he prayed

ROMA, February 7, 2006 —“ He had knelt down to pray shortly before celebrating the Mass in the little Catholic Church of Trabzon, in the north of Turkey, on the Black Sea, when a young man shot him in the back twice with a pistol, crying out —Allah is great.—

This is how Fr. Andrea Santoro, 60, of the diocese of Rome, a missionary in Turkey, was killed on Sunday, February 5.

Later, in another article featured on the same page, Fr. Andrea’s words about his goals appear.

—Open a window that would allow Western and Eastern Churches to exchange gifts, rediscover the sap that flows from the Jewish roots into the Christian tree, encourage a genuine and respectful dialogue between Christianity and Islam, and enable him to bear witness with his life and feelings, above all through prayer, the study of the Holy scriptures, friendships based on listening, talking, simplicity, his sincere believing and the way he lived.—

To me he is a martyr for Christ and for unity between East and West.

God is great indeed! Blood of Christ, courage of Martyrs, save us.

How we receive

A friend approached me today. He noted that the pastor of his parish spent the entire homily this past Sunday discussing the proper procedures for receiving the Holy Eucharist.

His statement to me boiled down to: —He talked about how we should hold out our hands. Why doesn’t he just speak about the Gospel?—

Why indeed!

In reply I said that since, at least in the United States, the Eucharist may be received in the hand in the Roman Catholic Church; pastors must take time to correct improper behaviors.

I also noted that the PNCC doesn’t go in for the ‘communion in the hand bit. Only the ordained may touch the Holy Eucharist (Bishops, Priests, and Deacons). It should also be noted that the PNCC does not have ‘Extraordinary Ministers of Communion’. The PNCC also has regular exposition and benediction of the Blessed Sacrament, at a minimum, on every first Sunday. We stress the dignity and reverence due the real presence of Jesus Christ.

In my opinion ‘communion in the hand’ is a horrid abuse. I will not speak for the Roman Catholic Church on the issue, it is not my place. However, the article —Communion in the Hand, Rethinking Communion in the Hand— by Jude A Huntz from catholic-pages.com does a great job of detailing this issue.

The point about improper behavior and abuse is that it exists where it is allowed. If we stop, before opening the door to situations that might lead to abuse, we have far less to worry about. Once the door is opened it is very difficult to close it.

Whenever we deign to partake of the Bread of Life we should be circumspect, composed, of proper physical and spiritual demeanor. Even the Saints recalled their unworthiness and the care that must be taken in receiving the Eucharist. To wit St. Paul tells us:

—Whoever therefore eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of profaning the Body and Blood of the Lord”

I’ve had people come forward for communion in our parish and stand there with their hand out. I simply, quietly, and very gently tell them that I cannot place the Eucharist in their hand. Since we give the Eucharist, Body and Blood, by intinction I ask if they have any health reasons for not receiving the Precious Blood. Regardless of that fact, the Eucharist goes on the tongue.

In my experience only one person has walked away. I also had one person ask me about this at a non-liturgical event. They said they would never go to a church where they cannot get communion in the hand.

Unfortunately, for that Roman Catholic person, they had a very poor understanding and/or education on the fact that ‘communion in the hand’ is not their right. It is in fact an ‘indult’ given to the various dioceses in the United States. They also had a very poor understanding of the concept of the Eucharist. The Eucharist is for them but not for them alone. It is the Bread of Life, entire and complete, for all who partake worthily. The ministers of the altar acting in persona Christi are giving of what they sacramentally represent.

A little Aquinas should help.

Síºmit íºnus, síºmunt mille:
Quantum ísti, tantum ílle:
Nec síºmptus consíºmitur.

Síºmunt bóni, síºmunt máli:
Sórte tamen inæquáli,
Vítæ vel intéritus.

Mors est mális, víta bónis:
Víde páris sumptiónis
Quam sit díspar éxitus.

Whether one or thousands eat,
All receive the selfsame meat,
Nor the less for others leave.

Both the wicked and the good
Eat of this celestial food;
But with ends how opposite!

Here ‘t is life, and there ‘t is death,
The same, yet issuing to each,
In a difference infinite.

To my friend I can only say; remember what you receive is due the utmost in holy dignity and respect.

Grace in the City

John Luke, the BLOGCORNER Preacher has a great article on salvation.

The premise is something we should all take to heart. Regardless of where you are or what you do the possibility of accepting Jesus Christ and living the Christian life is available to you. Is it an easy road? No. Is it impossible? No. Why? Because His yoke is easy and His burden is light.

See “blessed shall you be in the city”.

Mohammed’s (cartoon) Radio

I’ve wanted to comment on the whole Mohammed cartoon issue for about a week. Thankfully I kept quiet because there has been tons of good commentary about the issue all over the blogsphere.

I really appreciate Fr. Marin Fox’s take in his article Those Mohammed Cartoons found at Bonfire of the Vanities. This is the closest to my thinking, especially as regards republishing said cartoons.

The BLOGCORNER Preacher hits the nail on the head in regard to the inconsistencies, hypocrisy, idolatry, and errors found in Islam.

blogs4God has a great article, First the Muslims came for the Cartoonists.

In short, and in my opinion, this is a battle of cultures and civilizations. The Moslems see it as such.

Unfortunately, we in the West have that overwhelming desire to placate them, think the best, until (we hope) they see things our way. As blogs4God says. —Appeasement for a false peace is always a recipe for disaster.—

This is not a management situation where we have to deal with a difficult employee. This is not a child rearing operation, where we have to be patient and guiding. This is the reality of differing perspectives on the value of life, freedom, self determination, etc. etc. These are deep seated cultural values. Just because some in the West have given up on their foundational values does not mean the rest of the world will.

Our culture and our freedoms come from somewhere. They come from a proper understanding of humanity founded in Judeo-Christian scripture. Our civilization and structures are founded on that proper thinking. This is why the word ‘society’ has deep philosophical meanings beyond the dictionary definition.

There is no ‘our God is bigger than your God’ argument. Our God is God. Their prophet is not. Their prophet is, well many things, but not a prophet of God. The prophet deal ended when Jesus Christ, true God and true man offered Himself for the redemption of the whole world. How can you expound any more on God’s Word?

Now, I will take this opportunity to engage is some re-working of Warren Zevon tunes:

Roland the Headless Cartoonist

Roland was a warrior from the Land of the Midnight Sun
With a cartoon for hire, fighting to be done
The deal was made in Denmark on a dark and stormy day
So he set out for Arabia to join the bloody fray

Moslems of London

They’re the hairy headed gents who run amuck in Kent,
Lately they’ve been overheard in Mayfair.
You better stay away from them,
They’ll blow your head off, Jim,
The Moslems of London.

Ahhwooooo… Moslems of London, Ahwooooo!
Ahhwooooo… Moslems of London, Ahwooooo! Huh!

Mohammed’s Radio

The Moslems are restless and they’ve got no place to go
Someone’s always trying to tell them
Something they already know
So their anger and resentment flow

But don’t it make you want to blow up people
All night long
Mohammed’s Radio
I heard somebody calling from the Mosque
On the radio, Mohammed’s Radio

You know, Hamas has got their problems too
They will surely take them out on you
In walked the village idiot and his bomb was all aglow
He’d been up all night listening to Mohammed’s Radio

But don’t it make you want to blow up people
All night long
Mohammed’s Radio
I heard somebody calling from the Mosque
On the radio, Mohammed’s Radio

You’ve been up all night listening for his drum
Hoping that the righteous might just might just might just come
I heard the General whisper to his aide-de-camp
“Be watchful for Mohammed’s lamp”

But don’t it make you want to blow up people
All night long, Mohammed’s Radio

With my sincerest apologizes to the late, great Warren Zevon.

February 5 – St. Agatha (Św. Agata)

Chryste Jezu, Ty znasz tajniki serca mego, przed Tobą nie jest ukryta żadna myśl moja, ani pragnienie. Ty bądź Panem jedynym serca mojego, Ty niem rządź i kieruj według Twojej woli. Chcę należeć do Ciebie, i do Ciebie tylko wyłącznie. Tyś moim pasterzem, a ja Twoją słabą owieczką Wzmacniaj ma słabość i wspomagaj przeciw wszelkim pokusom. Amen.

A Prayer of Glory to Christ

St. Ephrem of Syria - Deacon

Glory to Thee, Lord

What shall I give Thee, Lord, in return for all Thy kindness?
Glory to Thee for Thy love.
Glory to Thee for Thy mercy.
Glory to Thee for Thy patience.
Glory to Thee for forgiving us all our sins.
Glory to Thee for coming to save our souls.
Glory to Thee for Thine incarnation in the Virgin’s womb.
Glory to Thee for Thy bonds.
Glory to Thee for receiving the cut of the lash.
Glory to Thee for accepting mockery.
Glory to Thee for Thy crucifixion.
Glory to Thee for Thy burial.
Glory to Thee for Thy resurrection.
Glory to Thee who were preached to men and women.
Glory to Thee in whom they believed.
Glory to Thee who were taken up into Heaven.
Glory to Thee who sit in great glory at the Father’s right hand.
Glory to Thee whose will it is that the sinner should be saved
through Thy great mercy and compassion.

–St Ephraim of Edessa the Syrian, Deacon, Monk, and Hymnographer of the Church

A special thank you to Monachos.
